Assessing yourself while teaching

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

After you have finished a lesson ask yourself these questions:

Ask yourself these questions:

Are you listening to your students?
Have you created a good rapport with your students?
Do you have good eye contact with your students?
Are you enthusiastic about teaching?
Are you teaching to the level of your students?
Are you pacing your lessons well?
Are you flexible?
Are you using varied ideas and not just relying on the course book?

MECHANICS

Are you still being student centered (consider your own 'teacher talk')
Are the stages of your lesson clear?
Are you dealing with form, meaning and pronunciation?
Are you dealing with pronunciation problems?
Are you dealing with ERRORS?
Are you varied in your approach?

YOUR PLAN

Do you set realistic aims?
Do you anticipate problems thoroughly and provide solutions?
Are you providing your students with balanced lessons i.e. dealing with all skills, grammar and vocabulary?

TEACH YOUR STUDENTS NOT THE PLAN
